Wayne Barlow is the President of Favor Home Improvements. Wayne has worked in carpentry for over 25 years and became a Wolf PRO in 2020. Favor Home Improvements specializes in decks and outdoor living spaces in the New Jersey area. We sat down with Wayne to discuss his business and successes as a Wolf PRO.
When did you start your business and what drove you to starting it?
During my time as a carpenter, I worked on decks here and there, however once the maintenance free decking materials hit the market, I knew I had found my niche. I love working with PVC decking so in 2016 I started my business, Favor Home Improvements. We only work on decks and outdoor living spaces.
How would you describe your decks?
I can’t be modest when describing our decks, we are incredibly detail oriented and work to perfection.
How has outdoor living changed in the past two years?

What are the most popular outdoor living trends you are seeing today?
Once the deck is complete, the homeowners tend to work with landscapers to create a cohesive outdoor space. I have noticed a lot of brick work, anything backyard related.
On average, how long will it take to complete a decking project from start to finish?
An average, it takes anywhere from two weeks to two months to complete one of our decks. Tell us about your team. Our team has been together since we started, and we pour our hearts into our decks. Perfection is our standard – every cut, every detail. We only know how to do it one way the right way. We truly love what we do, and it shows in our work.
What are homeowners most asked questions and concerns?
Homeowners ask about the different grades of decking and decking types, railing styles, and pricing of course. The most common question I receive is regarding permits. I take care of everything with the township. Upon meeting with the homeowner, I arrive prepared with pictures, styles, samples. Once we understand the dimensions, I provide the estimate, create a contract, and immediately begin the permit process with the township.
What are most popular decking color combinations with your clients?
We work with a lot of Silver Teak, Silver Teak with Black Walnut or Onyx is a very popular combination. In addition, I’d say Rosewood and Teakwook or Rosewood and Black Wanut is growing in popularity.
What are your favorite materials to work with and why?
Wolf Serenity Decking certainly our go to. Overall, Wolf Serenity looks the best and I feel it’s the most quality board on the market having worked with numerous brands. We also utilize HIDfast and typically pair our decks with PVC railing.
